A chat with Teacher Regina, who really treasures her conversations and friendships with the children

Updated: Nov 7, 2023

In this series of chats with our staff, we get up close and personal. They share about things like their favourite drinks, to their experiences and motivations at work.

Hi! Could you introduce yourself? Hello, I’m Ms Regina, a K2 English teacher in PPS Woodlands.

What does a typical day at work look like? I’ll start by greeting the children - they always have the brightest smile when they see me. Usually if it’s after the weekend they will share about what they did on the weekend, what did they eat, where did they go, for example if they went to the beach. For the whole day, it’s more about talking about the things they are interested in or the things they have learnt.

What is a pick me up that you need to keep you going? Oh, I love pineapple, anything with pineapple. In the morning – coffee! I need to have it. My children also love the smell of coffee though they know they cannot drink it. What are the heartwarming moments amongst the children that you remember? I love seeing them and talking to them. There was once one of my K2s asked me, “Ms Regina, between love and money, can you choose one?” Those kind of things really interest me because I am surprised day by day about the things that they think of and questions they have on their mind.

What is one quality that a teacher must have?

You just have to love what you’re doing, and everything will follow. Of course, you must be a caring teacher to your students, and be kind to them. To be a loving teacher, that is the most important thing.
