Teacher's Day Dedication Service 23: Riding Out the Storm

Updated: Apr 25

Riding out the Storm was the theme of the 5th Teachers’ Day Dedication Service which was held at the Zion Bishan Presbyterian Church on Saturday, 19 August 2023 and organised by the Christian Preschool Alliance. That morning saw more than 300 teaching and support staff from 65 preschools all over Singapore who came together to remember God’s goodness and faithfulness in nurturing and supporting children in early childhood education and their families.

After a time of worship, it was lovely to have children from Ang Mo Kio Methodist Preschool read God's Word. They read from Gospel of Matthew 14:22-33, which recounts Peter's well-known encounter with Jesus.

Matthew 14:29-33 Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Revd Dr Peter Poon, Rt Revd Lu Guan Hoe and Revd Sarah Ang had shared an aptly chosen message about rising above challenges, which was an encouragement to all labouring in the early childhood ministry.

Even when the environment is challenging and the changes and in the early childhood education sector may come fast and furious, our Lord Jesus will be with us in the storm and the waves when we call out to Him. He can calm the seas and He will make a way for us. May we stand together in strength and unity, believing that the work we do is purposed by our Heavenly Father and we will love His children just as He loves us. Let us Ride out the Storm together!
